COURSE DESCRIPTION

The 13km course begins at the bottom end of the Southside Car Park, accessed via Bones Rd / Jarosite Rd, on the Surf Coast.  The course follows from approximately half way the route of the half marathon Afterglow course along the Surf Coast Walk all the way to the finish at the Salty Dog Cafe, located at the Torquay Angling Club, Fishermans Beach, Torquay. It’s worth familiarising yourself with the route prior to running it.

The course is non technical and well signposted. While offering plenty of wild times for experienced trail runners, the course is also perfect for road runners looking to try the trail phenomenon due to the ‘easy’ nature of the trails (and the fact you’re never too far from a latte).

Runners will begin in the car park, heading north east via a well graded gravel trail. Stay on this – do not take any side trails as you enjoy the clifftop views along the way.

We apologise in advance for the congestion that is likely at the start of the 13km, however it is unavoidable, as due to various local land management requirements and our permit, this is the only place we can start this race! We ask that runners self seed, up the front if racing and down the mid to rear if you have a patience gene and happy to mosey your way down the trail with others until you hit Bells Beach! That’s where you can spread out and start your dash!

Please note that it is mandatory for all runners need to catch the supplied bus (part of entry fee) from Torquay to the start of this run.

Please do not self drive.

From Southside it is a short run down onto the sands of Bells Beach. After briefly trotting over the hallowed sands, it’s up some stair to the Bells Beach Car Park. Follow it north, staying on the footpath. From Bells, the course briefly heads inland through heath before coming back to the cliffs at Jan Juc. We divert you for a short descent and then climb back up, before rejoicing the official Surf Coast Walk, which leads you on past Jan Juc beaches, to Eagle Rock, onto the boardwalk at Spring Creek, past the Torquay SLSC and eventually, into the town. You jump onto a sealed footpath at Point Danger which leads along the promenade – strut your stuff, the nightlife is watching. After reaching a large playground on the other side of town, its onto some sand for a way, where we lead you to a short but fun dune run, then doubling back for the run into the finishline (which you may have heard as you passed by o the beach. Under the finish arch, it’s time to ‘get your glow on’.
